Six people were displaced from their home after a fire charred a second-story bedroom of a Chestnut Hill Townhouses apartment in the 1800 block of Chestnut Street Monday night.
Neversink Fire Co. Chief Ed Eisenhour did not say what caused the fire but said crews found a mattress in flames in the back bedroom about 7:16 p.m. Firefighters were able to stifle the blaze in 15 minutes, Eisenhour said, but not before extensive damage had been done.
'The room's totally gutted,' he said.

BEFORD SPRINGS RESORT, Pa. -- It is late and I am very tired the night I check into Bedford Springs Resort in south central Pennsylvania's Cumberland Valley. But as the evening unfolds, I will get very little sleep.
It isn't that my $249 bedroom for the night is not comfortable. The mile-high bed's thick mattress and cloud-soft bedding are cushy -- once I manage to scale them without the help of a step-stool.
It isn't that the hallways are not quiet. As I walk them in the wee hours of the night, I am by myself, although not really alone.
The newly restored resort's country setting is peaceful, too. No vehicular noise
