How large should your guest bed be?
'It depends on your guests, what they're comfortable with,' Donaldson says. If in doubt, go with a queen-sized bed, she says, but don't go cheap. There are other places in the room where you can save money.
'The important thing is the mattress. The bed frame is secondary,' although men tend to prefer a bed without a footboard, since their toes tend to jut past the end of the bed, Donaldson says. She recommends a Goldilocks method of choosing a mattress - basically, try it out for yourself before you buy.
Don't buy a mattress that feels too soft or too firm. When it feels just right to you, that's probably the bed you'll want for your guests
